Two Magpies
Madeleine Busby
"This poem was written during lockdown when I was working from home. Outside the spare room window there was an ash tree where a family of magpies would regularly make an appearance throughout the day. It became a ritual to watch them and a good omen when they come close enough to gaze upon. The piece was written as a series of haikus that can stand alone or be read together as a journey through the seasons."
From the inside world
A ritual step
Two looking outward
Quietly held close
In the snowy gazing tree
Two seeking comfort
Calling to the world
As if weaving some old spell
Two awaiting spring
Singing in delight
A dance amongst the branches
Emerge and explore
Amidst the sun-washed houses
There is a place for closeness
From the inside world
A ritual step
Two looking outward
Quietly held close
In the snowy gazing tree
Two seeking comfort
Calling to the world
As if weaving some old spell
Two awaiting spring
Singing in delight
A dance amongst the branches
Emerge and explore
Amidst the sun-washed houses
There is a place for closeness
