What?
A folk song a day... a poem a week... a short story a decade... everyone's doing it. We thought we'd offer something a little more Madrigirly by challenging ourselves to create 12 rounds - one for each month of the year. The texts and music will be written or adapted by members of Madrigirls, and will be freely available to download from this page, along with recordings and videos.
Why rounds?
Rounds are a great, quick way into harmony singing. They are ideal to use in warmups and as energisers throughout a rehearsal. They can be really complicated, or really simple and can be used as part of larger arrangements (see our back catalogue!).
What is a round?
A round is a piece of music where a number of different voices sing the same melody, but with each voice beginning at a different time. They can be combined with drones, or ostinatos (a repeating musical phrase).

I LOVE these rounds, but 12 just isn't enough? Where can I get more?
We're glad you like them! Why not write your own? It's a really interesting exercise, if you're looking to dust off your music theory skills and knowledge of harmony, and if you don't read/write music, have a go at writing a round by ear...
Sing for Pleasure has some great collection of rounds including Golden Rounds - 50 new rounds composed for their 50th anniversary.
